The Axe Factor: Steve Kean and the top four contenders to make an early exit from the Premier League
Not a single manager has left their post yet in England's top flight but that hasn't stopped the bookmakers pricing up who will move on first
We are now into November and the Premier League hasn't witnessed that rare thing - a managerial casualty. Not a single boss has been sacked or resigned and even votes of confidence are thin on the ground.
After 11 games the bookies have priced up the leading contenders to leave their post first. That international break can't come soon enough for these under-fire managers.
Steve Kean 8/13 (1.61)
Blackburn’s manager is the favourite to be the first to leave his post after six games without a win. Rovers are owned by Indian poultry firm Venky's, who have made no secret of their desire to bring success back to Ewood Park.
There have been encouraging signs this season, such as the performances against Newcastle and Arsenal, and with several huge games on the horizon, the 8/13 appears a little short.
Roberto Martinez 11/4 (3.75)
After eight straight league defeats, Roberto Martinez could consider himself lucky to still be in the running for this market. Wigan’s performances have been extremely poor in recent weeks; they look woefully short of quality, leaking goals and only scoring four in this run of losses.
The Latics are now rock bottom of the league, and with the visit of Blackburn following the international break, the pressure is on the Spaniard to deliver some points or face the consequences. Wigan chairman Dave Whelan is one of the more understanding men in football but a couple more defeats and the 11/4 could look like value at this point in time.
Steve Bruce @ 9/4 (3.25)
Sunderland find themselves in 15th place in the table which after a summer of investment is a major disappointment. Steve Bruce will have hoped for a better return from the opening exchanges of the league campaign.
Their next four games are against Fulham (Home), Wigan (Home), Wolves (Away) and Blackburn (Home) are crucial for the Mackems' season. Bruce will be looking to boost the Black Cats' league position over the next month or so but if results don’t go their way, the 9/4on offer could look like a big price in the run up to Christmas.
Mick McCarthy 7/1 (8.0)
Some sections of the Molineux faithful have expressed their displeasure at the team's performances recently. Mick McCarthy had to deal with howls of derision on a regular basis and at times the strain has shown. A 3-1 win against fellow strugglers Wigan on may have earned a reprieve.
Wolves face both Manchester United and Chelsea in their next four games and while expectations remain, the tough fixture list may work in McCarthy’s favour as other managers around him face a lot of their relegation rivals.
